  1. May I say as a contributor to this blog the purpose of the Lowdown was to provide a place for people to make comment and see scores etc while Walter was away, nothing more nothing less. Originally it was hoped to have several contributing to the site but unfortunately this has not occurred - no matter though it has been a place we can come to make comment. We are all doing our best – end of story.

For those of you who have made personal attacks toward the blog fair enough. I would like to point out thought I choose to remain anonymous as I am not a journalist on any level just a fan. This was an act service to the broader community not an act to raise personal profile or ego. I apologise for offense caused to anyone for this blog because for some of you it has obviously not been good enough.

Just so you know the hits to the blog have ranged from 300 averages to a current 700 per day. Obviously not unique visitors but no doubt this blog was a service to our football community and hopefully when Walter is back you will all be a bit more appreciative of the countless unpaid hours he does.

By the way Walter is back next week and good thing I say. I tip my hat to Walter even more as he is a mighty man than I…

My only recommendation to Walter on his return is to advertise on his site as surely the man deserves to make some income from his efforts.

A FINAL word from me - I am looking forward to see a Tasmanian Team after a long absence regardless of who is wearing a strip. Only a positive for the state.

    Yours sincerely

    Football Fan

  6. i think alot of people have been unfair on the knights and i for one do not like them personally but they do have quite a young team and have lost alot of players from there championship winning teams a couple years ago including huigsloot, conquest, begovic, wiggins, ladic, crosswell, sanders, hickey just to name a few and i bet if you put those guys into the line up now they would challenge south for the title with that squad, also to olympic, clarence and zebras are blooding alot of youth so in the next couple of years the league will tighten up

  7. It'll be interesting to see how the Brazillian goes on sunday, I think south will struggle to keep him at bay. That's if he's cleared. I think Morton will be at FFT all arvo making sure he doesn't!!!!

  8. this round is actually bloody important.

  9. Football fan. I wish to congratulate your efforts of maintaining this blog whilst Walter has been away. No one should dare criticise your efforts, as you're only trying to help the community out until Walter is back. Congratulations, and well done. Your efforts have been noticed and i for one appreciate them. I wish only more could.

  10. You're joking me right? The Knights prem team of 2005 would have beaten todays South Hobart team. Begovic, Huigsloot, Sanders, Fielding, Hickey, Conquest. All these players were at their prime, and they were bloody bloody good! I love watching the South team today, i do. However, i am humble enough to admit it wouldnt stand a chance against the successful Knights squad of 05 which cleaned up everything. Huigsloot particularly, i remember being unstoppable. With Sanders and Conquest running offf the big fella, no defence could cope. South Hobarts forward line is nothing compared to that.

  11. I would like to commend Football Fan for their dedication and commitment to providing a space for fans and the community to comment. I hope my comment was not taken in anyway as a slight on Football Fan. It was purely me wanting to make it crystal clear that the only things I write I put my name to.

I would like to congratulate you on providing a vital service to the footballing community in opening up forums for debate. It is just a little sad when a minority step over the line and take healthy debate into personal battles.

I disagree with the above comment. I think it would be an interesting game and unfortunately one we will never get the pleasure of watching. I played with Sanders and he is an amazing player. I would have paid good money to go and see that match.

I look forward to what is an extremely important weekend for some teams.

    Cheers,

    Callan

    You read it here first.

  13. oh what a game that would of been, i have played both and must say knights were alot better team and more pysical to play against, for me though there has been some great teams over the last 10 years here would be my top 5, 1 knights of 2000, 2 knights of 2005, 3 uni early 2000s, 4 zebras early 2000s,5 south 2010, by the way i dont play for any of these teams but hated playing against them

  16. The current South Hobart team is the best team Tas has seen in the last 15 years, no doubt about it. I have been watching Tas football for 20 years and the current South Hobart team is alot better than the previous Knights teams. Going back, the last team on the same level as South Hobart is the 1995/96 New Town Eagles side.

  17. Why are we being apologetic for creating a " Blog" site .

To me this site is as others , some creditable commentary but regettably a deal of personal invective .

I beleive it has fulfilled its purpose , provided the football community with an avenue to vent its spleen .

No doubt with Walter's return the site will lose it's popularity and Walter will again suffer the plagues of Egypt.

  18. south dont even compare to those eagles teams the standard is so crap now to back then

    ReplyDelete
  19. i think its a good argument about the knights and south teams, both were very good teams but i must say the knights team were alot stronger and different style of play to the south but kni9ghts would win this game i think, there wouldnt be to many players apart from beecroft and roach who would of been able to get a game in that team

  20. Easy to say, difficult to prove. When we had State League (what was it) top 4 or 5 from North and South? This drew all Southern players to 4 or 5 clubs.

I would suggest that the total talent pool is better now and I would also argue that the technical ability of young players today is far superior than 10 years ago.

  26. I watched Eagles beat Taroona today, how can Mr Collins ref senior games? what a joke he is

  27. Corey Smith send off AGAIN (I think that's three times against Lions, but definitely two, this year). Lengthy suspension coming up. The boy can't keep his ego in check.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Freeman got him sent off, disgrace of a coach

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh come Anon 12:25, that is unfair. If you don't think that the overwhelmingly vast majority of coaches anywhere (even right down to youth soccer) aren't trying to con the referee into dishing cards you are kidding yourself. Not saying that makes it OK at all but to label one coach a disgrace is to label most of them.

Now I didn't see the game but I have to assume that Corey actually did something to warrant it so I would think it was Corey that got Corey sent off rather than anyone else.

  30. Freeman has only himself to blame for not getting a result at Lightwood. Knights went down to ten men after half an hour. Kingborough have no plan other than to sit 10 men behind the ball. They continuted to do this for the remainder of the game until the last ten minutes, when he put two up front. Shock horror! First time for everything, Geoff.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Any person who suggests that anyone but Corey Smith is responsible for him being sent off is just as big a tool. And for those who continually excuse his behaviour maybe your acceptance of it is the reason for its continuance

    ReplyDelete
  32. freeman thought smith shouldve been sent off for kicking out at leamey from a one on one, of which he received a yellow, then they both were argueing and smith was sent off for dissent

  33. Anon 12:46, all the way back to the start, how wrong you were. Have fun in the bottom four!!!

  36. entertaining match, schuth's goal was a cracker too

  37. It was an entertaining game OF NETBALL.. softest game i have seen in a long time. Ref loved his whistle Foul Count would have been close to 40 each. it was both ways and Knights deserved to win. what happened to the defence that apparently dominated the Zebras attack last week??

    ReplyDelete
  38. Holmes and Fielding dominated them going forward in the second half. who would of thought Holmes as an attacking midfielder and Fielding up front! they even combined for a goal and could of had a few more.
